the-damned-things-ironiclastOpening an album with a song title taken from the film Beetlejuice is a sure-fire way of getting me interested, and 'Handbook For The Recently Deceased' does just that! This is a great modern heavy rock song with a groove not dissimilar to Queens Of The Stone Age, although the vocals are much more melodic than 90% of the heavy rock currently around.  Next up is 'Bad Blood' which is more along the lines of the Bush era of Anthrax in the groove but with a modern take in giving the listener a taste of the true genius within.

'Friday Night (Going Down In Flames)' is another groove-laden gem with a much more 80's metal feel to the lyrics but with an unmistakeable Scott Ian riff midway through the song! I honestly couldn't help do the Scott Ian stomp throughout this song!

First single/promo is 'We've Got A Situation Here' which is an epic introduction to the band with an almost Pantera groove riff running throughout the song! From the promo you can see the band do not take themselves too seriously but that's what I love about the band! 'Black Heart', with its Zep-like groove, is a great song. What I like about this song is that it shows us the light against the shade and will be blasting out from my car this coming summer (along with the rest of the album)!

'A Great Reckoning' is a bit of a departure from the rest of the album in that it slows the pace but still manages to rock yer socks off, with such an awesome melody throughout the chorus. Whilst I can imagine a lot of people skipping this song I'd say stick with it and you will be truly rewarded! 'Little Darling' is to me the next single - but what do I know?! A bit of a Foo fighters style vocal but, oh my god, what an amazing song! The guitar is very flute-esque at some points! Title track up next and the drum work of Andy Hurley is the driving force of this song and, with its screamcore vocals, is another fantastic song.

'Grave Robber' is an epic metal song in the vein of Fozzy, Iron Beard and Pantera but with more melodic vocals. This is truly a dirty heavy rock record and it's over almost too soon with one last song 'The Blues Havin' Blues' - this song is almost a master class in how to write an epic bluesy heavy rock song which, considering who the members of the band are, is amazing.

Any band that consists of Joe Trohman and Andy Hurley of Fall Out Boy and Anthrax members Scott Ian and Rob Caggiano, with Keith Buckley and Josh Newton of Every Time I Die... and can come up with an album of this awesomeness need to play here soon!
