revenantdead'Atrophy', the opening track of 'Two Evils', the new opus from Birmingham quartet Revenant Dead, may have you thinking you've picked up a hybrid nu-death metal release but you soon realise that you're actually walking in the shadow of UK doom masters Paradise Lost.

It's good stuff as well, mixing the Paradise Lost influences with some real deathly bursts. Vocalist West really does have a touch of the Nick Holmes about him mixed, bizarrely enough, with a bit of Brian Molko.

Musically songs like 'Shallow Grave', 'Death Spawn' and 'Revenant' have quite bit of variety to them, mixing up the aforementioned doom elements with some atmospheric passages and some really chunky riffing. A really promising record, showcasing the quality and variety of music on offer in the British metal scene today.
