Cerebal_BoreYou might think that Angela Gossow has an extreme singing style for a female. Well think again. Som, vocalist with Scottish death metallers Cerebral Bore, makes her sound like Julie Andrews.

With 'Maniacal Miscreation' not only do Cerebral Bore set the bar pretty high but Earache actually get back to what made them stand out so much back in the day; spine-crushing extreme bands. I feared that the days of Nottingham's finest releasing extreme landmarks like 'Alters Of Madness' and 'World Downfall' were a thing of the past. Having recently put out stuff by Insect Warfare and Wormrot to re-establish their grindcore credentials, this beauty puts them right back on the death metal map.

The aforementioned inhuman vocals of Som provide the perfect style for the blasting old school death that is Cerebral Bore's stock in trade. Songs like 'Open Casket Priapism' and 'Entombed In Butchered Bodies' bring back the heyday of Massacre at their finest with a touch of Cannibal Corpse thrown in for good measure. When it's fast, it's fast as fuck. When the breakdowns kick in, they are ball-breakers. The riffs are sicker than a kindergarten called "Gary Glitter".  And the vocals...beyond description, but they fit perfectly.

Hardly a hotbed of brutal death metal, but Scotland could be the new Florida before you know it.
