everymanFrom where else was I gonna get sent a cassette of the latest noise coming from the east coast of the US of A? Baldy Longhair Records of course and their latest squeeze is The Everymen and a live cassette is what they're offering.

Rough as dogs bollocks being dragged down a skateboard....but you know what it's still the dog's bollocks. Unlucky for some this drunken thirteen is just what the rock 'n' roll doctored ordered. Coming over as a cross between the Replacements (I shit you not) and about a dozen other cool bands, 'I Might Be Drinking' has shades of Buffalo Tom in the verse whilst 'Telephone' has a bit of Rocket From The Crypt going on which you must admit is no bad thing. The inclusion of the saxophone is superb and the dual vocals of Mike V and Catherine Herrick work really well, just check out 'Novocaine' and bask in its splendour as we get prime time Stooges sax wailing and sweet 'n' sour vocals.

'Come Back To Bed Little Girl' reminds me of the guitar work favoured by Mr Neil Young around the time he was 'Weld' - ing.  'Annie' is a great late night pissed up turn on the amp and crank out some melancholy dirty blues. 'Dance Only (Only Dance)' has a dash of Stiv Bators circa 'Disconnected' and a mighty fine tempo it is too and I'm a sucker for some "Woo Hoos" as backing vocals.

One thing I never tire of and that's some punked up rock 'n' roll and some honking saxophone and these Jersey boys (and girl) have managed to knock out a right proper dirty thirteen beer soaked tunes. And another thing, they sound like a top night out which might well be personified in the cassette closer 'Boss Johnny And The Get Lucky' which reminded me of when saint Johnny Of Thunders toured with the Oddballs; the same ramshackled beautiful noise. Now where did I put my bootlegs of their final shows?

Pop over to bandcamp to check out this release and if you don't currently own a cassette deck you can download it.
