Liverpool alternative tunesmiths Broken Lungs drop in with their debut EP, 'We're In This Together', bouncing out in rather typical musical fashion with one of those edgy tracks that currently overpopulate the pop punk/emo/rock an' roll market. Although a decent enough effort in 'We Stand Tall' - quoted by the band as for fans of Foo Fighters and Biffy Clyro - for me the vocals albeit good are a little bit too sweet to be sidled next to the aforementioned inspirations, though it could be uttered instrumentally you can see the influence possibly, as performed on 'I'm Done With Desperation', but the production loses the bite in the mix that maybe the tunes deserve. 'Try As I Might' really could grow with a bit of dynamic drive and distortion on the guitar which comes over too weak and non descriptive, musically speaking. 'Alleyways' mellows the mood and is quite reminiscent of the softer side of Clyro but without the essential commercial hooks - a nice number all the same. Rounding the EP off is the acoustic 'Lost At Sea', a track that quite frankly is boring and needs some sort of beat going on to accompany the guitar to lift the song as the vocal performance isn't strong enough to carry the track onto the next level of songwriting creativity. Broken Lungs..............Indeed!! www.facebook.com/BrokenLungs
