Glam/punk from Bochum, anyone? Well, here is the latest single release from a band currently kicking up a bit of a storm over on mainland Europe, and recently securing the support slot for Prima Donna's European trek later this year as well as a chance to showcase at this year's Rebellion Festival.
Getting things off to a sleazy and rollicking start, and mixing the glamorous side of the spirit of '77, leaning on some decent riffs and licks, this single from 2nd District is a great introduction to some fresh sounding glam/punk. 'Bad Habit' trades licks and has the snarling vocals you'd want and expect from this genre. 'Sing For Me' is a little less snotty and more melodic and reminds me of a cross between the Manics when they played some rock 'n' roll and a bit of the Blondie pop sensibility, which is a nod in the right direction I'm sure you'll agree. To close off this brief introduction we get the title track 'The Love Has Gone' with its drum and bass introduction (no, not that kind of drum 'n' bass; proper drums and bass rumble) and in a flurry of licks and riffing it's over!
An enjoyable yet brief introduction into the world of 2nd District, a band I'm looking forward to catching live in a few months. Hopefully a full album of new songs will follow later this year.
Definitely putting the glam back into punk, watch out for 2nd District - they're coming atcha people so don't say you weren't warned!
