Damaged_SuperstarsRemember the first time you dropped your stylus into the grooves of the not so subtle delights of an LP record on the White Jazz label?  And what about the orgasmic sensations that rushed through your headphones when Sonically Speaking in the UK inadvertently leaked the 'Total 13' demos via a mispressed CD of 'Diesel & Power?  Well French four piece The Damaged Superstars most certainly remember both of these - and more, because this four track 'Self Titled' EP is straight out the Scando camp of sleazy guitar punk, and boy do I like what I'm hearing.

From the overdriven squeal of Mat Damaged's throttled guitar on opener 'Now Scream', through to The Hellacopters on speed heads down romp-a-long of closer 'It's All About Rock N' Roll', everything about this EP screams "quality".  This Uber Rockers is into the red levels of tight but loose entertainment and in lead singer Kevin P the Superstars have themselves one of them Nicke Borg types who can sing with a confident sneer whilst straying just enough outside the conventional camp to keep things really interesting.

With all 4 tracks being delivered in around14 minutes this is all fast and furious stuff and it actually has me wondering what our resident noise specialist Mr Sutton might make of all this as I know he has always been partial to a wall of noise Tomas Skogsberg production, something which, to this EP's absolute credit, the guys involved manage to reproduce quite effortlessly with actually involving Mr Skogsberg in any way.

Pop the Balloon really has come up with some great releases recently, and this EP continues that exemplary standard.  The Damaged Superstars most definitely deserve the attention of anyone missing either The Hellacopters or Backyard Babies in their leopard printed lives, and at 4 Euros (available via the Bandcamp link below) it's most definitely worth a punt even if you are a more casual listener of this type of sleazy shit.

Highly recommended.
