There was, however, a tiny niggling doubt in the back of our minds; the music itself was actually very good. We tried to ignore it but couldn't escape it and, even worse, it continued to get better - the solos burned and the drums pounded, the Christian message faded into the back seat.
Then, in a flash of inspired wonder, track 5, known as 'Undercover Christian' - ignore the name - is sublime, heavenly even, from intro to finish. From then on we listened in stunned ecstasy to, frankly, an awe inspiring album much later on reflection. As it ended on the practically compulsory soft rock ballad, we came to a conclusion - these guys were good musicians, on top of that they were original, as resident drummer Casey exclaimed with joy "they even played a Hi-hat groove on a ride symbol!"
Every track was individual and had something to offer. There were hidden gems everywhere, with influences from Rainbow, Kiss and almost certainly unintentionally, given this band's attitude to religion, a definite Iron Maiden flavour. Would this have been how Mötley Crüe would have ended up, if they had discovered God rather than carnal pursuits? All in all a solid rock album only spoiled by its message. Appreciate this album on Youtube or some such site or borrow it from a Christian friend (if you actually associate with any). Otherwise let loose your closet desire to become a vicar. Out of the mouths of babes!!! I've got to book these two into rehab, get them out of the cult mindset.
