Hailing from the Midlands metal hub that is the Holy City of Birmingham, relative newcomers Kinn have wasted precious little time in getting their hard rock house in order. Barely just over a year old the Brummy four piece are busily gearing up for the imminent release of a self financed 3 track EP that's sure to appeal to all modern day cowboys with a taste for energetic, vibrant hard rock with a driving melodic, sometimes progressive edge.
Recorded last year at Cardiff's Long Wave Recording Studio with hot shot producer Romesh Dodangoda (Motorhead, Funeral For A Friend) at the helm, Kinn's first forray into recorded rock 'n' roll product kicks off with the barnstorming 'Want Me, Need Me', an instantly likeable and extremely catchy 3 minute workout of pop/rock sensibilities. Think The Blackout crashing headfirst into Judas Priest's 'Point Of Entry' and you'll be near the mark. Carried mainly by the solid riffs hurtling from six stringer Tomm E and frontman Nikki's superb vocal performance, 'Want Me, Need Me' manages to convey both youthful enthusiasm and adept musicality in equal measure. 'Hole World Down' continues along the same lines with another simple hook and it's obvious these lads know how to cast a line directly at the market they're aiming for.
'All Alone' is a departure from the style offered by the previous 2 tracks. Mellower yet with an underlying surge of energy it leans more towards a Lostprophets ('Start Something' era) meets Stone Sour showdown and is probably, after several listens, the best of the bunch on offer here. More in depth, with a more complex layering of styles than the bubblegum blitz of 'Want Me, Need Me' and 'Hole World Down', it's an under the skin grower that'll have you revisiting 'Kinn' time after time and hearing something new with each spin.
With high profile approval already in the bag from the likes of Myles Kennedy (Alter Bridge) and Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden) Kinn have set off with all guns blazing eager to rocket out of Birmingham like new wave defenders of the faith. They've got some big footsteps to follow on the road out of Brum but with the tasty 3 track 'Kinn' they've definitely put their first step down on solid ground.
Available from June 28th, so get your skates on and head over to http://www.myspace.com/kinn for details, dates, other 'Kinn cool stuff.
