october176Initially formed as a side project of Katatonia by Fredrik Norrman and Jonas Renkse way back in the late 90's and dormant since their second album 'Grey Dawn' back in 1999, October Tide got resurrected as a full-time concern when Norrman left Katatonia earlier this year.

With a completed line-up of vocalist Tobias Netzell and drummer Robin Bergh (session bassist Jonas Kjellgren also played on this record), October Tide offer up seven epic slabs of frost-bitten doom. With a musical style reminiscent of both early My Dying Bride and Paradise Lost, Netzell's harsh vocals add a sinister edge to proceedings and will doubtless appeal to black metal aficionados.  Tracks like 'The Dividing Line' and 'Deplorable Request' mix laconic melody with the aforementioned PL riffing style and give off a real sense of both power and atmosphere.

October Tide really deal in layering their music and the subtle textures of certain passages are quite entrancing, whilst the heavier sections have the dense claustrophobic atmosphere of classic old-school doom at its best.
