Having a new album in the bag and the responsibility of getting Camden Rocks off to a rollocking start South Wales' finest The Sick Livers were primed and ready to rock it up at the Good Mixer Pub in front of a healthy audience of afternoon rockers.... at the unearthly hour of one in the afternoon! A time you might think is most unsuitable for Glunk Rock, but you'd be wrong. Anytime is the right time, right? Right!

With frontman Ginge playing the pied piper with ants in his Cocaine Jeans leading proceedings, and with a healthy dose of old and new songs, it didn't take long for the applause to come and every last drop of entertainment on this warm North London afternoon was being lapped up by the crowd. The new songsgingeportraitcamden dominated the oh-so-brief half hour set with a barnstorming version of 'Gimme The Drugs', followed by the incendiary blast of 'Get Ready'. These tunes have lit a fire inside the band and it sounds edgy and fucked up in the best possible way as the smiles around the room from the band to the punters to the barman were evident.

This is Rock and Roll! Right here - Right now! No pretence, no bullshit, no pandering to what's in or out, this is the bomb and The Sick Livers are riding it. It might just explode or it might be harnessed to great effect, either way I want in and am excited by what I'm hearing.

The thirty minutes fly by and it's only time for a rousing version of 'Rumney Rock City' before the other bands have to try and follow that. It was amusing at 13.42 when the crowd were demanded to chant 'Obscenities' or the band were off, to which they duly obliged, at which point I honestly thought Ginge had cracked it and entered into Bon Jovi arena rock immortality with fans hanging off his every word but, alas, he then climbed onto a bench and brought the merch table down and half the PA equipment but, hey, it's all in the name of Rock and Roll and at the moment The Sick Livers are flying the flag! Catch them soon, it'll impress you.
