This is the first Pity My Brain promotion since the excellent Brain Freeze festival in December and it features Raveneye who, for me, were the band of said festival. Seeing many of the same faces tonight, that performance certainly didn’t do any harm in helping to pack a hot and sweaty Fuel for a sell out performance.

Fresh from support slots with Slash and Deep Purple, RavenEye feature Oli Brown the young bluesman on guitar, Aaron Spiers on bass and keyboards along with drummer Kevin Hickman.

From the off, RavenEye put energy, feel and passion into every note and it comes through, capturing the crowd immediately. Second song up is ‘Get it Started’ from their debut EP ‘Breaking Out’ before we are treated to some new songs to the same high standards.

This isn’t just a band with the musical chops and the tunes, they entertain too. We have Aaron Spires carrying Oli Brown on his shoulder a la Bon Scott/Angus Young, Scorpions style jumping off the drum kit and Oli leaping from the stage getting up close and personal with the crowd without missing a lick. They close the night, leaving the crowd very happy, with a triple helping from their debut EP, ‘Hey Hey Yeah’, ‘You Got It’ and the mighty fine title track.

Oli Brown has gone from a young, sharp suited bluesman to the frontman of a very special power trio, a band who seemingly have it all, give it all and when it comes to success may well get it all….

The only things that might go against RavenEye is the current state of the music industry and the fact that the mainstream media largely ignore rock and blues, BUT if the likes of Black Stone Cherry and Joe Bonamassa can go from clubs this size to headlining arenas then why not RavenEye?
