Big Country without Stuart Adamson is a concept too difficult to accept for some but, to its credit, the band continues, and with Mike Peters of The Alarm fronting the 2013 version of the band. With support from Pete Townsend's brother Simon, and Dave McPherson of InMe, the show at Cardiff's Solus asked many questions - Uber Rock's Rob Watkins has the answers.....

Digging out his best cape and sandals for a night out “on the prog” Uber Rock’s Jim Rowland already had this rare London headline show by American dark rockers Astra down as one of his potential gigs of the year, but with a slight change of the under card seeing our man possibly coming face to face with a hound of Dracula, would our man ever get out of the Borderline alive? Click the link to find out.

Star & Dagger arrived on UK shores for a short, seven-date tour and Uber Rock just had to be there to witness it. Why? Well, when a band features members of Queens of the Stone Age, Eagles of Death Metal, Cycle Sluts From Hell and "the girl from White Zombie" you'd be a fool to miss out. Gaz E knew this tour would be cool, he just didn't realise how cool......

Uber Rockers have said it before and we'll say it again: get to shows early to show support for the support bands - hey, it's in the title! You never know, you might just find a previously unearthed gem. Uber Rock's Ben Hughes journeyed to Leeds to catch the fine Rival Sons at one of the shows on their recent UK tour and came away with two cool new bands to check out......

The Sheepdogs are a Southern rock influenced quartet from Canada, and if that wasn’t enough of a contradiction for you, Uber Rock’s king of all things thrash and prog Jim Rowland just happens to be their most recent convert. So how did our one man and his prog expert end up being a convert to the Sheepdog trials when all he did was pop along to see the last night of the band’s recent UK tour, basically on a whim? Click the link and all will be revealed.

It had been eight long years since vocalist extraordinaire Jeff Scott Soto had last visited the shores of Norn Iron. But just a few weeks back he put the record straight by returning to Belfast for the opening night of his ‘Damage Control’ 2013 European tour. Mark Ashby was on hand for Uber Rock to capture a truly surprising night of melodic rock.

Billed as a 20th anniversary tour Everclear hit UK shores for the first time since the '90s, and quite possibly for the last time. Uber Rock's Gaz E stood on the barrier at the band's Bristol show, hanging on every word and witnessing one of the gigs of the year.....

With his date at London's Hammersmith Odeon a total sell out, Jim Rowland suddenly found himself standing on one leg in the rather opulent surrounding of High Wycombe's Swan Theatre catching up with Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson as the frontman (also stood on one leg) played a special set featuring both 'Thick As A Brick' albums. Was he simply living in the past though? Our scribe has all the answers - and more....

It's a Friday night, and there's blues rock royalty playing at The Steelhouse in what promised to be a heavyweight night of guitarmageddon featuring the amazing talents of both Oli Brown and Chris Buck. With club regular Rob Watkins still shell-shocked after seeing The Queen buying a Spam fritter in Nicky Fish Bar earlier that day we had to send out an uber sub to wheeze his way through a night of what he would normally call "dad rock". So what did Johnny H make of it all? Read on to find out.

During the month of April, Uber Rock was proud to put our name to a series of five tour dates put together to promote what we like to call “the real rock ‘n’ roll underground”. The tour featured two very like minded (if not like sounding) bands, namely Northern lights of the UK sludge scene Goat Leaf and London post metal troop Zodiac N Black. Adding a local support in each town and city they visited. This was a must attend show for us, especially when they visited URHQ’s hometown on the fourth date. Click the link to find out what chaos ensued.

Bringing together some of the very best music that the burgeoning Northern Ireland scene has to offer right now, this event was really all about Sweet Taste and their recently release ‘Hit The Spot’, but with Mark Ashby in the venue early doors and pressed up against the stage like a teenager going to his first show, this was always going to be about more than just one band. Read on to find out more.

Uber Rock's Rob Watkins isn't always hanging out with old people (and by 'hanging out' we mean robbing their graves), sometimes he gets down with the kids, his medallion glistening in the stage lights as his shirt, unbuttoned to the waist, clings to his frame like a waif-like groupie. Hit that link to find out what happened when our man went techno with Enter Shikari....

"The Abomination" - that's what the Johnny Solinger-fronted Skid Row were called by mouths close to Uber Rock ears when the band last visited the UK a few years ago. Would time have been kind to the frontman with some of the biggest shoes - certainly biggest ego - to fill now that even more time has passed? Uber Rock's Ben Hughes entered a darkened, and very full, room hoping to get you good people all the answers......

Bringing together two of Sugar Shack Records shining lights, namely Jashwha Moses and Dan Ratchet for a local showcase gig to promote their new LPs was just to much of a Reggae temptation for Nev Brooks to resist. So with his dodgy sat nav set to somewhere in Bristol he set sail for Fiddler’s, only to arrive seemingly way to early. Here’s the story of his night.

Announcing their first live show in Wales in just under two decades, The Wonder Stuff are a band loved and loathed here at URHQ. On the love side of the fence though sits Dave Prince, and he couldn’t wait to get his ticket to see the band kick off their most recent tour in (of all places) Port Talbot. Our two legged groove machine picks up the story of why he feels The Stuffies have never been more relevant. Go on, we dare you click the link.

In the first of two reviews online this week on Uber Rock involving our team spending lost weekends watching punk music, Fraser Munro ventures to the usually placid world of Butlins to discover what the inaugural Great British Alternative Festival has to offer. With the likes of The Damned, John Otway, Anti-Nowhere League and Wilko Johnson all playing he was going to be an uber busy Billy Bear that's for sure....

Miles Kanes is a name that will probably not resonate with most of our readership, but it most certainly does with all of us at URHQ because we have father and son scribe combo Lewis and Nev Brooks constantly telling us how good this ex Last Shadow Puppet is now he's gone solo. In light of this we thought it might be as good a time as any to let Brooks Snr go wild with the tweens and spread the Kane word a little bit farther afield now he truly is first of his kind.

Hot footing it across the UK as part of a much more extensive European trek, Thin Lizzy bassist Marco Mendoza finally gets the chance to air tracks from his 'Live For Tomorrow' solo release in more intimate surroundings than he is usually accustomed to. Mark Ashby caught up with his recent interviewee on the final night of the tour and found a man seemingly at ease with da funk and maybe not a lot else.
