When I asked friend of ÜBER RÖCK Robbie Quine if he had any 'Gig From Hell' tales that he could share with us, I knew that he would provide something suitably colourful...
"Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned"...times 10 when it's drag queens.
We had a gig in Hawaii at a redneck bar called Moose McGillicuddys. We are a glam band, and our make-up was melting from the heat. We looked like raccoons before we even hit the stage! My straightened bleached hair turned into a jewish frizzball, like REO Speedwagon...it was awful. It really felt literally as hot as hell up there! Things got worse when all the homophobic college beer-guys were freaking out because they were secretly attracted to the drag queens and were frightened by their sexual urges to 'take a walk on the wild side'! Luckily, toward the end of the set, we were redeemed by a bunch of tattooed dykes who started dancing and having a great time. It caught on and the freaky-folk took over, and not a moment too soon.. |
