There was a time when the name of Anvil was only mentioned in hushed tones within metal circles. Thankfully that's not the case here in 2012, but long time pounder Jim Rowland wants to take you all back to the beginning of the band's fallow years via this series of re-releases from Steamhammer/SPV and a Sony best of, to prove it wasn't all as bad as you might care to remember. Pound on people, pound on....

Next month Chicago IL punk rocking trio Juicehead hit the UK supporting their record label bosses in a series of six shows. It's a staggering 43 years since bandmates Andy Parker and Phil Mogg first stepped onto a stage together as UFO, the band's current guitarist Vinnie Moore would probably have just been starting school around about that time, whilst keyboardist Paul Raymond was making a name for himself on London's blues scene. All these years on and UFO may have long since swapped their space rock for classic rock but as Rob Watkins finds out they are a band still dancing to the tune of the 'Seven Deadly'.

Now here's an album that I'd guess half of the Uber Rock writing staff could have waxed lyrical over: 'Third Eye' by Redd Kross is just one of those albums that, no matter the weather, no matter the mood, always slaps a smile right across your face. Ben Hughes offers his first piece of Hi-Fi To Die For and, seriously, couldn't have made much finer a choice....

Playing a series of four UK shows accompanied by a 38 piece orchestra, Deep Purple most certainly couldn't be accused of scrimping on arena production values due to austerity measures. In fact add US powerpop legends Cheap Trick onto an already packed O2 stage and you suddenly had yourself a recession busting classic rock package par excellence, as Andrew Johnston found out.

The Jolts '8%' album comes loaded with tunes alleged to be as good as vintage Hanoi, The Damned, and Rose Tattoo. This veritable promised land of fine riffery proved a touch too much for our eager scribe Dom Daley as he plunged headlong into iTunes instead of waiting for his physical CD winging its way over from Canada. Was it worth the effort? Well read on and find out.
