Colin Firth and Reese Witherspoon set to star in WEST MEMPHIS 3 movie Print E-mail
Saturday, 04 February 2012 21:14

Colin Firth and Reese Witherspoon are set to appear in a movie based on the West Memphis 3.

'Devil's Knot' will be directed by Atom Egoyan ('The Sweet Hereafter') and is based on a script by Scott Derrikson and Paul Boardman. 'Devil's Knot' has been in the works for about five years; Derrikson and Boardman originally set it up with Dimension. The film's producers are now scouting for a new home while Boardman works with Egoyan on a rewrite.

Firth will play Ron Lax, a private investigator who was the first pro bono supporter of the defendents as they headed to trial in 1993. Lax built one of the most prominent private investigative firms in the Southeast, and offered his services for free to the defendants, who at the time were reviled because of the heinous nature of the crime and the sensationalized reports about devil worship and ritualistic sacrifice. All of that was later proven to be unfounded, after Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley were convicted despite not a shred of physical evidence. Lax was an unsung hero and helped find the DNA in the knots that bound one of the victims, that cast suspicion on Terry Hobbs, the stepfather of Steven Branch, one of the 8-year old murdered boys. Witherspoon will play Pam Hobbs, the mother of Branch. She initially believed the trio murdered her son, is eventually persuaded that the three suspects are innocent and wrongly accused.

Filming begins next summer in Louisiana, and other big names are expected to join the cast in smaller roles.

Firth and Witherspoon previously worked together on 'The Importance of Being Earnest'.

Sean O'Donnell leaves YELLOWCARD: rock world mouths a collective "Who?" Print E-mail
Saturday, 04 February 2012 21:09

Bassist Sean O'Donnell has left US pop rockers Yellowcard, he announced in a statement on the band's website:

"In April of 2010, the 5 of us met up in Los Angeles to play some music, hang out, and talk about the future of the band. I felt privileged to be invited to get to do so, and it was an amazing couple of days. Fast forward a year and a half and we've put out two full lengths, shot 6 music videos, and traveled to almost 30 countries. It's been an exhilarating time for all of us in the band and some of the most fun I've ever had in my music career. Which is why I'm sad today to let you all know that I am leaving Yellowcard.

This is not one of those ugly messy band member departures that seem to plague rock music. This is a personal decision, and it's mine. Simple as I can put it, playing in a band that is on a full time touring schedule demands a balancing act of work and family that I can no longer pull off and still remain happy. As you can imagine, this was not an easy decision to make, but usually the really important ones never are."

TEENAGE CASKET COMPANY set to break hearts with Valentine's Day single release Print E-mail
Saturday, 04 February 2012 20:37

UK Power Pop Rockers TEENAGE CASKET COMPANY, described as 'Cheap Trick on overdrive', are set to release their new single 'WITHOUT YOU' on Valentine's Day, February 14th 2012.

A brand new promo video for 'WITHOUT YOU' has been released to coincide with the single and was produced and directed by TAYLOR / WINTER FILMS.

The video can be viewed right here!

The song, which is a teaser track for a brand new EP scheduled for release in late Spring, shows a slightly darker side to the three piece rock outfit but still no doubt holds on to their ability for penning super slick melodies and huge choruses.

The new single comes hot on the heels of their recent US Album release, 'BEST KEPT SECRET' from JAMSYNC MUSIC, which showcased the finest songs from the bands first two releases.

'WITHOUT YOU' will be available to Download from iTUNES, AMAZON, CD BABY and all other good download music sites.

ALICE COOPER set to star in Bigfoot movie for Syfy Print E-mail
Friday, 03 February 2012 16:27

Syfy's newest creature feature is amassing yet another pop-culture cauldron of familiar names.

The network's upcoming Bigfoot - which already stars the previously announced power team of Danny Bonaduce (The Partridge Family) and Barry Williams (The Brady Bunch) - is adding the following actors: Howard Hesseman (Head of the Class), Sherilyn Fenn (Twin Peaks), Andre Royo (The Wire), and rock legend Alice Cooper (School's Out). Bruce Davidson is directing.

When Bigfoot is discovered in South Dakota, two life-long rivals (Williams and Bonaduce) battle to capture the creature - one to exploit it and one to save it.

The movie will debut later this year

ALL TIME LOW frontman too ill to write his own name or play a record Print E-mail
Friday, 03 February 2012 16:24

All Time Low frontman Alex Gaskarth's "upper respiratory cold/infection/thing" has forced the cancellation of a DJ set and signing appearance from the band while on tour in the UK.

The group has no plans to cancel any shows, and Gaskarth will be on vocal rest for the time being.

"I wanted to make the first official announcement regarding a few cancellations per my faulty voice pipes," Gaskarth said in sign language. "As some of you may know, I've been struggling with an upper respiratory cold/infection/thing for the past week, and last night in Southampton it finally took its toll. We ended up cutting a handful of songs, but managed to get through the end of the set with a lot of help from the audience."

"Regardless, I am now on major voice rest because I absolutely refuse to cancel these last shows."

"With that in mind, I won't be DJing FaceDown @ Scala tonight, and we will be cancelling our signing tomorrow at Banquet Records."

"I'm really sorry that we won't be able to make it out to the extra events, but the shows matter most, and I want to be as healthy as possible for both."

"Thanks to everyone for being understanding! Being a human sucks sometimes... I need robot pipes like Ke-Dollarsign-Ha."

His ability to joke at the end of the statement given that he is too ill to even play a record or write his own name gives us all hope for a better future on Planet Earth.

KISS in talks with Angry Birds creators over latest attempt to fully kill their legacy Print E-mail
Friday, 03 February 2012 15:14

Gene $immons has revealed that Kiss are in talks with the people behind the hugely popular computer game/app Angry Birds, in regards to starring in their own spin-off.

Simmons told Industry Gamers that he was confident that the mooted-project "will become a deal" also claiming that the rockers were in discussions with Sony Games.

"We're talking with Sony Games now," he said. "We are really trying to take it in areas that haven't been done before and have stayed out of the marketplace because the ideas simply weren't exciting enough. So while the gaming world is waiting for the Kiss games that are going to explode, we're busy taking the brand to places where no brand has gone before."

Kiss fans are indeed waiting for the Kiss games that are going to explode after the Psycho Circus PC and Dreamcast spin-off The Nightmare Child proved as popular as Gene Simmons' Tongue Magazine.

Shit, were we supposed to have forgotten about that game, Gene?

HORNET want you to get buzzing about another exclusive London show Print E-mail
Thursday, 02 February 2012 19:19
HornetLondon based independent record label SED Records UK return once again with their free-entry rock nights at Soho's top rock venue, The Intrepid Fox, in full force on Thursday 23rd February 2012 to showcase the UK's best up and coming young rock bands. If you have previously been to an SED Records night you will know how fantastic the nights have been with hot young talent from all over the UK rocking the joint. There is a stellar line-up with three great bands. Headlining the night is SED Records signed hard rock outfit Hornet. All About The Rock said "Hornet are like are a shot in the arm - an injection that you're going to want on a regular basis" and as always main support comes in five-star rating this time from London's finest glam rock band Damn Dice and the Bournemouth based Western Sand who kick ass 70's style.

Headliners Hornet are currently taking the music industry by storm and are causing a huge stir in the rock 'n' roll honey pot! who reviewed the young upstarts at their last show said "These boys are something special and there's just no stopping the buzz getting louder" and with London's Big In The Game Magazine recently saying; "In their time The Sex Pistols had revolutionised the music industry in a way never seen before. It is my belief that Hornet will do the same, all that's left is to see their influence spread. Need I say any more?" You know the Hornet boys are on to something big!

Glasswerk said; "It's Like witnessing Nirvana, The Sex Pistols and Black Flag and the crowd here is lucky enough to catch the band in intimate surroundings, clearly aware that they are witnessing something very special indeed. 'Outta Control', 'Second Hand Smoke' and 'Rock n Roll Riot' already sound like classics. The bands rise to superstardom depends on one thing - whether a major label has big enough balls to take on this rock leviathan."

Main support comes from Damn Dice, who are an emerging new band from London who are fully equipped with a high energy, powerful and hard rock sound injected with an exciting stage presence that matches their glamorous image of four, long haired, sexy glam rockers who are dressed to kill. At the end of 2011 Damn Dice managed to scoop the main support slot with the legendary L.A Guns and supported them on a 17 day tour across the United Kingdom and Europe. Damn Dice focus on the lighter side of life, such as sex, partying and having a wild time and with no room for negativity Damn Dice perceive rock music as an expression of positive energy and these lads boldly sing "Life is a gamble. We play to win. Roll the damn dice, never lose" so whether you're into gambling or not I can guarantee that Damn Dice are a safe bet and will blast The Intrepid Fox away!

Opening the evening are the talented Western Sand, who are an exciting, no bullshit, balls-out-of-the-bath, four piece southern hard rock revival group hailing from, Bournemouth, Dorset. With high ambitions the guys from Western Sand intend on putting rock 'n' roll back on the map and after forming in 2008 Western Sand are becoming Dorset's most exciting new rock band, earning a strong reputation after performing countless shows around Bournemouth and Southampton. Relentless gigging has landed the band headline shows at The Joiners as well as supporting The Treatment, Jettblack, Voodoo Six and Heaven's Basement. So if you don't mind getting sand between your toes then make sure you catch these guys live in the city because they might just cause a sand storm...

The last two SED Records shows had rockers crammed into the venue like battery hens so make sure you get down to the venue early enough to avoid disappointment of not being able to get in! Doors will be opening at 8pm so make sure you get down to The Intrepid Fox in Soho on Thursday 23rd February 2012 it's an evening not to be missed!
