FESTIVAL NEWS: Bloodstock announce four more spooktacular acts Print E-mail
Monday, 30 October 2017 13:31

Just in time for Halloween, Bloodstock has announced four more spooktacular bands - and added the 2018 Rock Society tickets to the ticket store.

Watain – who release their sixth album, ‘Trident Wolf Eclipse’ on 5 January, will headline Sunday’s Sophie Lancaster stage in a UK festival exclusive.  Frontman Erik Danielsson commented:

"Our last performance at Bloodstock in 2012 was also the final date on the ‘Lawless Darkness’ tour.  The sun was setting while we played and the crowd was getting louder and wilder the darker it became.  [It was] a very charged atmosphere.  [We’re] eager now to return and see what the eventful years that have passed and the force accumulated since then has done to both us and the Bloodstock crowd.  Furthermore, England is of course sacred ground when it comes to metal in general, so when performing there, the stakes are always high.  May all those that doubt be impaled upon them."

Combichrist and Memoriam have been added to the main Ronnie James Dio stage for the Friday, and German power metallers Orden Ogan on Saturday.  They join headliners Judas Priest, Gojira and Nightwish, as well as DevilDriver, Emperor and Nails.

Bloodstocks Rock Society tickets become available in the store on Halloween morning at 9.00am!

The ‘Rock Society’ is effectively the festival’s ‘Members Club’, offering not only a 10 per cent discount on the price of a weekend ticket (on top of the early bird discount if the Rock Society membership and ticket bundle option are booked together), priority signing tent access, a Rock Society laminate, access to the VIP Serpents Lair bar, a tour of the backstage and production areas to see ‘behind the scenes’, the chance to meet with the festival organisers, a dedicated hangout area in the Rock Society tent on site, a Rock Society Facebook community.  Memberships are priced at £75 and limited to 300.

Also now in the store are tickets for the new Vanaheim campervan field.  Due to increasing demand each year, some site adjustments have been made to allow for more pitches.  The new Vanaheim site is located across the road, directly adjacent to Serpents Lair VIP parking, allowing an increase in size to accommodate 240 campervans, as opposed to just 130.  Tickets for campervan pitches will remain at this year's price of £60.

Bloodstock’s first wave of Serpents Lair VIP tickets are now sold out.  The final allocation, the last batch of VIP deluxe packages and a limited amount of VIP upgrades, priced at £145 (for those who’ve already bought ‘early bird’ tickets), will become available on 16 December.

Standard weekend tickets are currently available at the ‘early bird’ price of £125.  In order to keep up with inflation and extra costs in 2018, standard weekend tickets with camping will increase from last year's £139 to £145 once the ‘early bird’ allocation is gone.

Bloodstock will take place at Catton Park, Derbyshire, from 9 - 12 August 2018.

ALBUM NEWS: Bloodshot Dawn prove they have been “re-animated” Print E-mail
Friday, 27 October 2017 12:22

Renascent British melodic death metal crew Bloodshot Dawn are to release their new album. ‘Reanimation’, via Hostile Media on 12 June.

Bloodshot Dawn Reanimation

The album will feature a host of guest appearances, including Jeff Loomis (Arch Enemy, Nevermore), Paul Wardingham, Ken Sorceron (Abigail Williams, The Faceless), Mendel Bij De Leij (Aborted).

‘Reanimation’ is the first album to feature the new Bloodshot Dawn line-up, which sees sole band founding member, and frontman, Josh McMorran joined by guitarist Morgan Reid, drummer James Stewart (also of Vader and Divine Chaos) and bass player Giacomo Gastaldi.

Frontman and last founding member Josh McMorran described losing all members from the line-up that recorded the ‘Demons’ album back in 2013 as “a huge shock to the system”.

He explained:

"I had to take some time to think about how to move forward with the band’s sound and honestly thinking wasn't what was needed. When Morgan joined the band he worked tirelessly on riffs and ideas for songs which I sculptured into my design and feel for how I thought the album should flow. We met up over a two week period and turned hundreds of ideas into ten tracks very naturally. The general feeling is that we now for the first time have a solid direction and process, we work as a unit instead of separate solo efforts within the band.

Bloodshot Dawn 1

"We recorded [the] guitars and drums in the east of Germany and Czech simply because that's where Morgan and James are based. The studio in Czech, Babylon Studios, had an incredible drum room which was a huge selling point to this studio. We recorded guitars at Morgan’s home studio, which follows a similar process to our previous records. After that we headed for Sweden to work with Per Nilsson (Scar Symmetry) for final guitar pieces, additional layers, mixing and mastering. Per is a good friend and an extraordinary musician and his ear and eye for the big picture has helped us create ‘Renanimation’ and pushed us to evolve our sound in a very natural way.

"As for the stories within the album, a lot of it is ambiguous, regarding personal struggles, as well as observations on modern day society. But as with all Bloodshot Dawn records the lyrics aren't always as clear cut and it's the sci-fi artwork that really tells the cover story so to speak. We worked with a good friend Chris Kewli who is a concept artist with an incredibly creative mind.

“The artwork is the third part of a trilogy of art continuing and finishing the concept that started with the first two Bloodshot Dawn albums. The front cover pictures an alien approaching a war torn earth who's coming to clean up the planet of human life and refresh the earth back to its former glory! The art unfolds further through the inlays of the CD."

Bloodshot Shot return to the road for the first time in two years with a string of dates in latter half of January:

Diamond Black, a new project featuring guitarist Ben Christo (The Sisters Of Mercy/Night By Night), have released their debut single, ‘Sorrow’:
