A bunch of Über Rock-approved rock ‘n’ roll reprobates have come together to record and release a fundraising single in memory of Status Quo guitarist Rick Parfitt.

‘Rock Remembers Rick’ will be the debut release from Barrel And Squidger Records and will be available on strictly limited three-track 7” vinyl, as well as a two-track digital EP.  All proceeds will go to the children’s cancer charity The Shona Smile Foundation, which was set up in memory of Shona Gill, a young Quo fan who lost her battle with a rare form of cancer in 2004, aged ten.

The lead track is a cover of the Parfitt-written ‘Rain’, by Walkway, who themselves supported Quo on numerous occasions, featuring a guest appearance by original “Frantic Four” drummer John Coghlan – making this his first UK single appearance in more than 30 years!

The second track sees CJ Wildeart teaming up with York Americana stalwart Boss Caine and The Main Grains’ Ben Marsden for ‘Christmas Eve (Nanana)’ a radical reworking of the 1971 album track ‘Nanana’, adapted with the permission of original songwriters Francis Rossi and Bob Young, with new lyrics by Jason Hodgson, writer and researcher for From The Makers Of… (FTMO…), the Official International Status Quo Fan Club, who also performs on the song.  Swedish tribute act Sound Of Status lead a 1000-strong crowd in an outro singalong recorded at the recent Status Quo Fan Club convention.

The vinyl version also will feature Massive Wagons’ Parfitt tribute track, Back To The Stack’, originally released earlier this year in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust.

The digital version will be released on 15 December, followed by the vinyl on 24 December  - the first anniversary of Parfitt’s death. Both can be pre-ordered HERE.
