CORROSION OF CONFORMITY & MUNICIPAL WASTE confirmed for 4th annual GWAR-B-Q Print E-mail
Thursday, 11 April 2013 17:01

Antarctic rock-gods GWAR have released the first lineup for this year's GWAR-B-Q, located at Hadad's Water Park in Richmond, VA.

This year sees the event entering its fourth consecutive year while offering its most bone-crushing line-up yet, setting the stage for what will certainly be the most massive GWAR-B-Q in the history of the human or any other race.

The event is scheduled to take place Saturday, August 17th, at Hadad's Water Park in Richmond, VA, located at 7900 Osbourne Turnpike. Doors will open at 10 AM and the first band will hit the stage at 11 AM. For more information be sure to visit www.Gwarbq.com/

Ticket information will be announced shortly.

Local faves and international thrashers MUNICIPAL WASTE will provide main support to the mighty GWAR, and in turn will be supported by a plethora of devastating acts like CORROSION OF CONFORMITY, PIG DESTROYER, CANNABIS CORPSE, LOINCLOTH, KUNG-FU DYKES and many more. Once again Hadad's will host not one but two stages which will be packed with bands all day... and finally there are rumors of a yet-to-be-announced act that will put this year's GWAR-B-Q 2013 completely over the top.

"Once again we blow the horn of war and set into motion the gears that grind us towards the greatest GWAR-B-Q yet," said unrepentantly horny front-thing Oderus Urungus, fresh off debuting GWAR's new GWAR-B-Q sauce at a strongly attended event at the world-famous Grinders in Kansas City. "We will not only be rockin' like Dokken and slippin' the cock in, but we will shoving a wealth of GWAR products down your throat... not only our new GWAR-B-Q sauce, but our very own beer, Impaled Ale! Eat and drink yourself into a diabetic stupor, then puke it all up in the slam pit! It's gonna fucking rule!"

That's right, the 4th annual GWAR-B-Q is poised to make yet another stinky mess in the crotch of today's scene - BE THERE OR SUFFER THE SHAME OF BEING INCREDIBLY PATHETIC!

SKINNY PUPPY to release new album, 'Weapon', on May 28th - cover art revealed Print E-mail
Thursday, 11 April 2013 16:48

Industrial outfit Skinny Puppy will release their new album, 'Weapon', on May 28th via Metropolis Records.

In its nearly three decades of existence, Skinny Puppy has established itself as a groundbreaking innovative voice in the world of electronic music. Fearless in both its musical experimentation and voicing a stance on the issues of our times, the new album, Weapon, is no exception.

This stunning new album stands as a commentary on that which it is named after, the Weapon, or more specifically, to the concurrent glorification of the gun culture and simultaneous horror at the devastation the gun can cause. Given this view, the pop undertones of the albums opening “wornin” and the compelling counterpoint of the vocals and lyrics seem to reflect our mass media homogenization of an instrument of death into an entertainment centerpiece. “illisiT" could then be focusing on the authoritarian control applied to us under the guise of protecting us from the criminal element. Though possibly it is from the view of the average citizen, arming themselves against the threat of each other. The more it is analyzed, the more it could be pondered on varying levels. Perhaps the classic Skinny Puppy sounds evident in the song “solvent” are a nod to not only the past, but to a bleak Orwellian future, cycle of the weapon leads only to power in the hands of those who have no fear of using it. Are we facing a 1984 dystopia filtered through a Kafkaesque lens? A world where the illusion of power given to the private citizen afforded ownership of a weapon distracts them from the Big Brother drones that watch overhead?

Parallels could certainly be drawn from our own society to a track like “tsudanama”, where the ever building menace of the mechanized rhythms crashes over the listener in waves as the vocals at times seem to take the tone of the voice of protest, standing against the inevitable tide of the dystopian path of progress. Then does “plasiCage” implore the listener to take up the fight against a gun worship culture and the spiraling towards oligarchy? Or are the mournful tones “terminal” a funeral dirge for our society?

Could the weapon be the gun, or the one who wields it? Is it in creating an arms race among the populace, or does it lie in the resulting authoritarian control given to those who are charged with protecting us from ourselves? Is it the power to profit from the cycle? Is it the singular act of speaking against the conditioning of our thoughts and actions?

'Weapon' tracklisting:

01. wornin'
02. illisiT
03. saLvo
04. gLowbeL
05. solvent
06. paragUn
07. survivalisto

Frontman Nicholas Walsh recently checked in with the following update: “Just letting you all know that we’ve been prepping for our official debut release. We have done a photo shoot with renowned photographer Darko and have been finishing up the artwork as well as the mixes on our bonus tracks. Though we have been in the studio tracking some ‘new, new’ songs, those will only see the light of day for our upcoming live performances, and will not be a part of our debut release. They will be reserved for F.U. #2. Thanks goes out to all of our Canadian fans for all of your support since the beginning. It’s time to share your homeboys and girl with the rest of the world.”

The Famous Underground line-up is:

Nicholas Walsh – vocals/guitars
Laurie-Anne Green – bass/vocals
Rick Corvese – guitars
Darren Boyd – guitars
Desche Sparboom – drums

Famous Underground’s sound and music is edgy, melodic and hooky bringing a paradigm shift to the arena of rock. It’s been said, that they have created something fresh and exciting in an otherwise stagnated genre. With the conclusion that no-one has definitive comparisons, Carl Begai writer with elite hard rock/metal magazine BW&BK describes the new recording as “it’s a darker if-METALLICA-were-GUNS N’ ROSES direction with this brand new album.”

Famous Underground’s self-titled studio release produced by Nick Walsh, and mixed by Darius Szczepaniak (THE BLACK CROWES, SACRIFICE) at Rouge Valley Studio in Toronto. The new recording takes Walsh’s writing to a more defined state where the lyrics delve more into the complexities of the real world.

These musicians have independently garnered critical acclaim supporting such acts as MÖTLEY CRÜE, DEF LEPPARD, KID ROCK, BLACK SABBATH, BILLY TALENT, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, APRIL WINE and many other international acts.

Thursday, 11 April 2013 16:32

 BewareODheader

Following an intense first trip to the UK which saw them play to packed out rooms around the country, Los Angeles based indie rock band Beware of Darkness are set to release new single 'Howl' on 6th May.

The track has already been picking up plays at the likes of XFM, Kerrang! Radio and Q Radio and the 'Howl' music video offers up a visceral visual accompaniment. The band are also preparing to release their full length debut album, 'Orthodox', which will be out on 27th May via Bright Antenna Records.

This rocking, new power-trio made up of songwriter and guitarist, Kyle Nicolaides, drummer Tony Cupito, and bass general Daniel Curcio were weaned on a heady blend of The Beatles and Led Zeppelin to form the nucleus of what 'Orthodox' brings to your ears. Recorded entirely in two weeks at the Sound Factory and Valley Recorder in Hollywood, CA, executive produced and mixed by Dave Sardy (at his Hillside Recording Studio) and produced by Greg Gordon and Nicolaides, Beware of Darkness's debut-full length will be the most fun you will have listening to a meditation on loss, girls, mothers and the implications of all three on the rest of us.

Wednesday, 10 April 2013 16:27

Transplants Press shot

American punk band the Transplants are finally back with a ferocious new album called 'In A Warzone', which hits the street this June 24th via Epitaph Records.

"When we started this band 13 years ago, we weren't worried about who was going to like us," states frontman Aston. "We still aren't. 'In A Warzone' is more raw and stripped down than our previous releases. In my opinion, it's our best album. It's always been difficult to classify Transplants. But at the end of the day, we're a punk rock band. We make whatever type of music we want."

To mark the record's announcement, the notorious band - which features Tim Armstrong (Operation Ivy, Rancid), Travis Barker (Blink 182) and notorious frontman 'Skinhead Rob' Aston - offer fans a free download of the record's title track 'In A Warzone' which sets the tone out the gate with raging vocals from Aston, guitar and vocals from Armstrong and a super charged hardcore beat from Barker.

TORPEDOHEAD release new video for 'Red City Lights' Print E-mail
Wednesday, 10 April 2013 16:24

German rockers TORPEDOHEAD have released a brand new video for 'Red City Lights', the second promo single from the band's successful album, 'Greetings From Heartbreak Key'.

The harmonica-flavored 'Red City Lights' is a stripped down country-folk acoustic tune that spotlights a different side of Torpedohead. The track was recorded live at home in the kitchen with no overdubs.

The video, which can be seen below, was directed by Christoph Wick and shot in a barn in the backwoods of the infamous Heartbreak Key.

Torpedohead's 'Greetings from Heartbreak Key' was released on October 26th 2012 through Woodhouse Records and since got raving reviews in the press. Uber Rock's Ben Hughes said of the album:

"'Greetings From Heartbreak Key' is one of the most instantly satisfying rock 'n' roll albums I have heard in a while, proving two things to me; that these Germans sure give the Swedes a run for their money in quality sleazy rock 'n' roll, and Ginger Wildheart ain't the only guy with all catchy hooks up his sleeve these days."
