ALBUM NEWS: The Bloody Beetroots to release guest laden new album in October Print E-mail
Friday, 15 September 2017 11:17

The Bloody Beetroots – aka Italian producer and songwriter Sir Bob Cornelius Rifo – will release his new album, ‘The Great Eelctronic Swindle’, on 20 October via Last Gang Records.

The release has been preceded by two singles: ‘My Name Is Thunder’, a collaboration with Jet, and ‘Pirates, Punks & Politics’ featuring Jane’s Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell and Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee.

The album also features guest appearances by Anders Friden of In Flames, Jay Buchanan of Rival Sons, Jason Aalon Butler of Letlive/The Fever and Eric Nally of Foxy Shazam, as well as collaborations with Gallows and Deap Valley.

“This is the first time I have used so many vocalists and lyrics in The Bloody Beetroots music.  I chose the greatest vocalists I knew that could help tell the story of about four years of life,” says Rifo.

“The title is a tribute to the Sex Pistols and the film ‘The Great Rock and Roll Swindle’ directed by Julian Temple.  It was a sign of the end of an era. The end of punk.  I want to reclaim that for electronic music because the business squeezed the genre so much that they delivered the end of electronic music itself.  We are living in a great electronic swindle.  People don’t even realize who is the artist, the producer and who deserves to be called an artist in this genre.  There is much great music out there but it is completely covered by trash.  You just have to dig. There’s so much shit around.

“Dance music has been recognized as cheerful, joyful but there is so much more than that.  The way we’re dealing with this album… with the cover, etc, is trying to add substance to it.

“Dance music used the beat to draw people in.  We use the ‘four on the floor’ kick in a similar way to bring people in and then expose to something with more substance.  Similarly, the mask is a catalyst.  To bring people in.   Now there are many masks out there trying to do the same thing.

This project is for the people and everybody can be part of TBB.  I’m a little guy from a small town… I am part of the people and this is made for the people.”

ALBUM NEWS: Black Rebel Motorcycle Club to release ‘Wrong Creatures’ in January Print E-mail
Tuesday, 12 September 2017 13:45

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club are to release their new album, ‘Wrong Creatures’, on 12 January.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club

The first track, ‘Little Thing Gone Wild’, is available as an instant free download with pre-orders of the album. The album title is inspired by a lyric from the single: “Lord you hear me loud into my soul speaker, why won’t you let me out, you’ve got the wrong creature”.

‘Wrong Creatures’ has been more than two years in the making as the band - Peter Hayes (vocal, guitar, harmonica), Robert Levon Been (vocal, bass, guitar) and Leah Shapiro (drums) – started work on it in the summer of 2015.  They had just finished the touring cycle for their last album, ‘Specter At The Feast’, and Shapiro had undergone life-saving brain surgery for Chiari Malformation, a rare disorder the restricts the flow of spinal fluid between the brain and spine .

“It’s a crazy making machine, it can chew you up good, I mean we literally toured ‘till the wheels came off and Leah’s brain literally started leaking out of her head” says Been.

“I know I’ve battled on and off with mental depression, and Pete’s head never came with any proper instructions.”

“I find myself writing about death a lot,” says Hayes.

“I find myself having a discussion with death, which sounds dark. For me, it's dark humour.”

Adds Been:

“We are truly an island – come hell or high water, so it’s usually best to dress accordingly. Though I’m not sure what the proper attire is when drowning in fire. But leather usually goes with everything.”
